Tour through the extraordinary world of precious stones at all levels of production. Visiting mines to understand the exploration, and the stoning workshops to verify the commercial transformation of the most beautiful gems. In addition, visit to the cities that developed during the gold exploration of the 17th century, in the state of Minas Gerais.

DAY 1 : RIO DE JANEIRO – TIRADENTES
At 09:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking guide/driver. He will escort the group during the discovery of Minas Gerais’ colonial cities. The first step of this journey is Tiradentes, a well preserved village since the colonial era. 05H00 journey for 330 km. The trip goes through the minerals valleys of the well-named state of “General Mines”. Upon arrival, check-in and installation at the hotel. After a break, guided visit among the cobblestone streets, baroque vestiges and workshops. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: From Friday to Sunday a steam train makes the journey between Tiradentes and São João Del Rei.

DAY 2 : TIRADENTES – CONGONHAS – OURO PRETO
In the morning, continues the visit of Tiradentes, a bucolic retreat in the heart of the gold valleys. After lunch, head north to Congonhas. 01H30 trip for 115 km. The hill that overlooks the city holds Master Antonio Francisco Lisboa, “o Aleijadinho”, masterpiece. Twelve allegories, human-sized, carved at the feet of the Basilica de Bom Jesus dos Matosinhos. This set is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The afternoon goes on the road to Ouro Preto, 01H00 journey for 100 km. After a break first visit of Ouro Preto. The tour is curvy, dynamic, dramatic… Baroque! Walk among tall houses, cobblestone streets, the Tiradentes Square, the São Francisco de Assis church. Return to the hotel by the end of the day. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: From Friday to Sunday a steam train makes the journey between Tiradentes and São João Del Rei. Monday’s most of the attractions are closed in Ouro Preto.

DAY 3 : OURO PRETO – INHOTIM – BELO HORIZONTE
At 08:30, meeting in the lobby of the hotel with an English-speaking guide/driver. He will escort the group on Minas Gerais colonial cities routes. Transfer to Inhotim. 02H20 journey for 110 km. Created in 2005, this botanical and landscape gardens feature a collection of contemporary art in: “a place of knowledge production where the environment and art coexist”. Guided walking visit through cultural and scientific initiatives which compose the complex. The closure of the Inhotim leads us back on the road to Belo Horizonte. 01H30 journey for 60 km. Upon arrival, check-in, installation at the hotel. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: Inhotim is closed on Mondays.

DAY 4 : BELO HORIZONTE – NOVA ERA – GOVERNADOR VALADARES
At 09:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking driver/guide. He will escort the group on Minas Gerais precious stones routes. The road crosses the state’s valleys rich in minerals to Nova Era. 03H00 journey for 140 km. First approach of the Brazilian mineral industry visiting the emeralds “garimpo” of Capoeirana. It may be possible to buy and approach several small artisanal mines. Then, the group takes the road to Governador Valadares. 03H00 journey for 200 km. This town rests in the heart of Minas Gerais and it is a large centre of mining and gem trade. Upon arrival, check-in and installation at the hotel. Evening at leisure.

DAY 5 : GOVERNADOR VALADARES / MINING AND GARIMPOS
At 08:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking driver/guide. Road towards Conselheiro Pena to discover the 02 facets of the gemmology world. Visit to the “Geometa” mine, operates for 03 generations on a semi industrial scale. It produces various precious stones. The road heads now to Goiabeira and Pedra do Garrafão to visit a “garimpo”. This recent family exploitation complex extracts semi-precious stones and quartz crystals on the vein. Presentation of working techniques and exhibition of their private collection. Local lunch on site. Return to Governador Valadares to visit the local stone market and private retailer looking for raw and polished stones: emeralds, imperial topaz, tourmaline,… End of the day to enjoy a large panorama of the valley from the Ibituruna peak. Evening at leisure.

DAY 6 : GOVERNADOR VALADARES – MINA DO CRUZEIRO – TEOFILO OTONI
At 08:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking driver/guide. The first part of the day is dedicated to visit the Cruzeiro mine, specialized in the extraction of tourmalines: green, blue, black, two-tone. A variety that impresses collectors and neophytes. After the visit, the road continues to Teofilo Otoni. 02H30 trip for 140 km. Upon arrival, check-in, installation at the hotel. Evening at leisure.

DAY 7 : TEOFILO OTONI / MINING AND GARIMPOS
This day is dedicated to discover precious stones the hallmark of Teofilo Otoni. This morning, accompanied by the English-speaking driver/guide, the group enters artisanal aquamarines mines. Presentation of extraction techniques and private collection of raw and polished stones. Before lunch, refreshing break at the waterfall of “Jangadeiro”. After lunch, visit to the local precious stones market. Purchase opportunities. The afternoon continues in the Teofilo Otoni market of gems where we find: lodolites, alexandrite, garnets, kunzites, sapphires, emeralds, rubies, aquamarine… Return to the hotel by the end of the day. Evening at leisure.

DAY 8 : TEOFILO OTONI – GOVERNADOR VALADARES – RIO DE JANEIRO
After breakfast, private transportation to the Governador Valadares airport. 02H30 journey for 140 km. Domestic flight Governador Valadares – Rio de Janeiro (schedule and flight number to be confirmer). Upon arrival, reception at the airport and private transportation to the hotel. Check-in, installation and rest of the day at leisure. Meals not included. Night at the hotel.
