Presentation

The Gold Trail dates back to colonial times in Brazil from the 17th and 18th centuries. The cities developed during the exploration of the gold in Minas Gerais, and left in their structures architectural and cultural jewels, as gold-leafed churches and the Brazilian baroque, in the hands of Aleijadinho and Master Athaíde.

DAY 1 : RIO DE JANEIRO – TIRADENTES
At 09:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking guide/driver. He will escort the group during the discovery of Minas Gerais’ colonial cities. The first step of this journey is Tiradentes, a well preserved village since the colonial era. 05H00 for 330 km. The trip goes through the minerals valleys of the well-named state of “General Mines”. Upon arrival, check-in and installation at the hotel. After a break, guided visit among the cobblestone streets, baroque vestiges and workshops. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: From Friday to Sunday a steam train makes the journey between Tiradentes and São João Del Rei.

DAY 2 : TIRADENTES – CONGONHAS – OURO PRETO
In the morning, continues the visit of Tiradentes, a bucolic retreat in the heart of the gold valleys. After lunch, head north to Congonhas. 01H30 trip for 115 km. The hill that overlooks the city holds Master Antonio Francisco Lisboa, “o Aleijadinho”, masterpiece. Twelve allegories, human-sized, carved at the feet of the Basilica de Bom Jesus dos Matosinhos. This set is classified by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site. The afternoon goes on the road to Ouro Preto, 01H00 journey for 100 km. After a break first visit of Ouro Preto. The tour is curvy, dynamic, dramatic… Baroque! Walk among tall houses, cobblestone streets, the Tiradentes Square, the São Francisco de Assis church. Return to the hotel by the end of the day. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: From Friday to Sunday a steam train makes the journey between Tiradentes and São João Del Rei. Monday’s most of the attractions are closed in Ouro Preto.

DAY 3 : OURO PRETO & MARIANA / VISIT
At 09:00, meeting in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking guide. The wealth extracted from mines in the XVIII century transformed the region into an architectural museum. A perfect stopover for art and architecture lovers. Discover colonial houses and religious buildings such as Nossa Senhora do Pilar church…, the art of Aleijadinho, Mestre Athaíde and their disciples. The tour continues to Mariana located about 10 km away from Ouro Preto. The singular village is almost untouched since the Portuguese installation: a wonder! Visit to the cathedral and the “Pelourinho”. The day ends in the pursuit of Ouro Preto splendours. Visit to the Oratory Museum and the Mining Museum. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: Monday’s most of the attractions are closed. Fridays at 11:30 and Sundays at 12:15, organ recitals are given at the matriz de Santo Antonio Catedral in Mariana.

DAY 4 : OURO PRETO – INHOTIM – BELO HORIZONTE
At 08:30, meeting in the lobby of the hotel with an English-speaking guide/driver. He will escort the group on Minas Gerais colonial cities routes. Transfer to Inhotim. 02H20 journey for 110 km. Created in 2005, this botanical and landscape gardens feature a collection of contemporary art in: “a place of knowledge production where the environment and art coexist”. Guided walking visit through cultural and scientific initiatives which compose the complex. The closure of the Inhotim leads us back on the road to Belo Horizonte. 01H30 journey for 60 km. Upon arrival, check-in, installation at the hotel. Evening at leisure.

Obs.: Inhotim is closed on Mondays.

DAY 5 : BELO HORIZONTE / DEPARTURE
04H00 prior to take-off, private transportation to the airport. International / domestic flight (schedule and flight number to confirm).
