Unique fjord in Brazil, the Saco do Mamangua has unparalleled beauty. Short trekking to escape from urban life and get in touch with nature. Canoeing in the mangroves and hiking to the region’s highest peak are some of the local activities. The view from the Sugar Loaf is stunning.. and everything is near Paraty, in the state of Rio de Janeiro.

Day 1 : PARATY – LARANJEIRAS – MAMANGUÁ
At 8:30, meet in the hotel lobby with an English-speaking guide. He will escort the group during his journey around Juatinga peninsula. Local bus ride to Laranjeiras where begins the adventure through the Atlantic Forest. The trail is smooth and allows to discover the local fauna and flora. 02H00 walk to reach the Regato. The hamlet is surrounded by mangroves, and lives by the Caiçaras traditions. Lunch followed by a wood boat painting handicraft workshop. The day ends with a walk to the bivouac, a small group of comfortable colourful houses in the Brazilian only fiord: the Saco do Mamangua. Dinner and evening at leisure under the stars.

Day 2 : PARATY – PARATY MYRIM – SACO DO MAMANGUÁ
At 10:00, meeting in the hotel lobby an English-speaking guide. He will escort the group during his journey around the Juatinga peninsula. Local bus ride to Paraty Mirim. Free time in the village for final preparations before taking off to the Reserva Ecológica da Juatinga. The walk begins with a strong ascent looking for the path to the Brazil single fiord: the Saco do Mamanguá. 01H30 walk for 500 meters uphill. The trail is softened by the descent and offers many panoramas on the region. Break for bath and picnic. The trek resumes to find by mid-afternoon the refuge. Installation and free time on the fiord slopes. Dinner at with the moonlight. Night under the stars.

Day 3 : MAMANGUÁ / KAYAK OR PÃO DE AÇÚCAR
Morning at leisure or activities according with the group’s wishes. For the most motivated part of the group, full day of activities accompanied by a local Portuguese-speaking local guide:
Half kayaking day into the mangroves. Silent navigation in the fiord and its bottom not to scare egrets and crabs. Refreshing moment by a waterfall.
Half trekking day up to the local Sugar Loaf. It offers a stunning panoramic view of the Saco do Mamanguá. 01H00 walk for 400 meters uphill. Free time on top to enjoy the view. Bath at the hill bottom.
Return to the refuge before sunset for a relaxing activity! Evening at leisure.
Meals included. Night at local family.

Day 4 : MAMANGUÁ – PARATY / COSTAL NAVIGATION IN THE BAY
After breakfast, embark on a local fisherman boat equipped for costal navigation. The refuge disappears on the way back to Paraty. Rolling droves the embarkation to clear water deserted coves. Snorkeling looking for turtles and starfishes. Stops by hidden beaches, shaded by the Atlantic rainforest. Fish lunch break. Then, navigation continues into the bay’s calm waters. Upon arrival, the group shall make its way to the hotel. Evening at leisure.
